  12. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE

  14. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  15. before buying it. If you try a shareware program and continue
  16. using it, you must register. All copyright laws apply to 
  17. shareware, and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a 
  18. few specific exceptions as stated below. Like shelfware authors, 
  19. shareware authors are accomplished programmers, and the programs 
  20. are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good 
  21. programs and bad ones!) The difference is the method of 
  22. distribution.  The shareware author specifically grants the 
  23. right to copy and distribute the software, either in general or 
  24. to a specific group.

  26. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You 
  27. should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether 
  28. it's found on a store shelf or shareware. Shareware makes fitting 
  29. your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.  And 
  30. because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware has 
  31. the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the 
  32. product, you don't pay for it.
